October 8—Sarasota
(Sarasota, FL) — Florida Studio Theatre (FST) is delighted to announce that the nonprofit theater has been awarded a $45,000 Arts Appreciation grant from Gulf Coast Community Foundation. In receiving this grant, FST is being recognized as one of twelve cornerstone Sarasota arts organizations that draw people—visitors, new residents, and artists—from across the country to Florida’s “Cultural Coast.” Thanks to Gulf Coast, these funds will provide key support for FST’s 48thWinter Season, which kicked off on September 29 with the first performance of the FST original music revue, The Wanderers.
“The Gulf Coast Community Foundation was one of the leaders in providing support to arts organizations when we made the difficult choice to shutter our doors due to the pandemic in spring 2020,” said Richard Hopkins, FST’s Producing Artistic Director. “Gulf Coast’s unwavering support of FST is particularly meaningful as we fully reopen our theatres for the Winter Season. Their backing demonstrates how valuable theatre is in our community.”
Gulf Coast awarded Arts Appreciation grants to twelve arts organizations in the region, including FST, acknowledging their contributions to the economy and helping bolster the area’s reputation as a leading artistic and cultural haven. Florida’s largest subscription theatre, FST produced over 20 productions in 2019, reaching over 235,000 attendees.
“Together with our donors, we appreciate how much Florida Studio Theatre adds to our quality of life and our regional economy,” said Mark S. Pritchett, President I CEO of Gulf Coast Community Foundation. “Gulf Coast has been a proud supporter of Florida Studio Theatre, and we can’t wait to see what artistic innovations the FST team will bring to our community this season.”
