Education Foundation of Sarasota County Establishes COVID-19 Education Relief Fund

By  |

The Education Foundation of Sarasota County has established the COVID-19 Education Relief Fund to help local educators, students and families focus on student learning while school campuses are closed due to coronavirus risks.

“We have moved forward swiftly to deliver EFSC signature initiatives and services in innovative ways that help our students continue making progress toward their educational goals and keep our teachers focused on student learning,” said Jennifer Vigne, EFSC president.

The crisis has made the need for the EFSC’s work more apparent. As the nonprofit organization dedicated to Sarasota County public education, the EFSC has a unique role to play in continuing to provide quality educational support and encouragement for student and teachers in different ways that allow effective digital and remote access.

Examples include providing virtual college-career advising, virtual mentoring, and other virtual replications of the services at campus-based Student Success Centers. Digital lessons on strengthening social-emotional well-being will provide valuable tips for families, students and teachers who feel overwhelmed.

“The EFSC’s work is vitally important during this time for K-12 and especially current high school seniors, whose worlds have been turned upside down just when they expected to be entering a new, exciting phase leading to their futures,” said Vigne.

Vigne is counting on the generosity and philanthropic culture of the Sarasota County community to rally in support of keeping focused on student learning.

“In light of difficult decisions and challenges our families and schools are facing, we know that additional resources will make a major difference for our students in this unprecedented time of need,” Vigne said.
