March 23, 2022 – Sarasota

The Evelyn M. Duvall Family Studies Initiative for social workers, family counseling professionals and educators returns to the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee campus on Saturday with renowned child welfare advocate Jerry Milner as the keynote speaker.

Milner, director of the Family Integrity and Justice Works at Public Knowledge, will headline a dynamic all-day program that also includes Florida Department of Health Community/Child Welfare Advocate Nathan Scott III, USF Professor of Social Work Chris Groeber and a panel of local community leaders.

The conference will be held on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Selby Auditorium on the USF Sarasota-Manatee campus, 8350 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota.

Registration is free. Register by visiting https://www.sarasotamanatee.usf.edu/academics/duvall-family-studies.aspx.

The symposium, which is open to the public, is designed to foster research-driven best practices. Media are encouraged to attend as well.

Milner, a longtime child welfare advocate, is responsible for co-leading efforts to assist jurisdictions in transforming existing child welfare systems into approaches that strengthen and support families to care for their children in safe and healthy ways. He holds a Doctor of Social Work degree from the University of Alabama and has worked at all levels of child welfare for several decades.

The Duvall Initiative is named for Evelyn Duvall, a former USF faculty member and longtime benefactor of social work programs. To learn more about the Duvall Initiative, contact Duvall Initiative Chair Jane Roberts at jmr@usf.edu.
