October 19, 2022 – Sarasota
The second season of Fresh Fridays continues on Friday, November 4th with Soul on State, celebrating soul music with a dash of R&B and funk. Taking place on State Street between Lemon Avenue and the State Street parking garage, the November block party promises to bring a touch of glamour to these uniquely American genres.
The event will be headlined by K-Luv and the United Funk Federation, a band whose resume includes performances with B. B. King, Al Green and Toby Keith, as well as sold out shows at the Apollo Theatre in NYC. Fronted by lead vocalist Kim Lovering, who toured with Wilson Pickett and was featured in his shows, the band puts a singular spin on everything from Aretha Franklin’s gospel-inflected music to Chaka Khan’s decidedly danceable hits.
“Soul music from the 60s and 70s is so universally loved,” says Next-Mark founder and event organizer Joseph Grano, “and it’ll pair perfectly with the elevated yet approachable ambiance we try to imbue Fresh Fridays with.”
Guests are encouraged to dress to impress as they boogie and slow dance, while some Fresh Fridays hospitality favorites will be offering delicious bites and beverages streetside for Soul on State guests. Those hospitality partners include Brick’s Smoked Meats, State Street Eating House + Cocktails, Art Ovation Hotel and Tsunami.
The State Street parking garage will remain accessible from Orange Avenue and Ringling Blvd, while on-street parking is available in the surrounding area. The event runs 7-10 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
