My husband and I came to Sarasota 30 years ago,” says Darci Jacob. “We love it here. We never looked back.” Because Jacob had prior retail experience and a degree in fashion merchandising, she was drawn to Caché, a mom-and-pop-style fashion boutique in Sarasota. She worked as its store manager for 20 years—right up until the entire company closed in 2015.

Jacob immediately partnered with Caché’s district manager to open Panache, another clothing store. When Panache’s lease ran out, Jacob launched a new store, Darci, in late 2020. “Life is too short to wait for your dreams,” she says. “You have to go out and make them happen.” Even during a pandemic!

Darci, a high-style fashion boutique located in downtown Sarasota, is Jacob’s dream come to life. “From the moment people walk in, I want them to feel at home.” To make that happen, she serves champagne, and wine—plus there’s a man cave with beer!

Jacob takes pride in customer service and having clients trust her for their fashion needs.  “I will never send a client out of the store in something that isn’t flattering,” she promises. Darci has something for everyone, from casual to formal, from size zero to size 20. “My age group is probably 35 to 80,” Jacob explains, “but we’ve been selling more cocktail dresses, gowns, and prom dresses than ever.” 

She has a small team helping her. Jackie, her “right hand,” has been with Jacob for 20 years, while Debbie, her “left hand,” has worked for Jacob for three years. “I couldn’t do it all without them!”

When she isn’t at Darci, Jacob works with local nonprofits such as SPARCC and Big Brothers, Big Sisters of the Suncoast. “I’ve been very blessed. Giving back is my way of being grateful for it all.”
