Creative Group Catering Inspired by Chakaia Booker: Surface Pressure – Sarasota Art Museum

At the Sarasota Art Museum, Chakaia Booker: Surface Pressure, will be on exhibition through October 23. To celebrate the launch of this exciting exhibit, Bistro at the Sarasota Art Museum hosted a special pop-up dinner that showcased creative culinary offerings that were inspired by Booker’s artwork. Now, the art-inspired menu is also available for groups to experience during private events. 

Chef Kaytlin Dangaraan and the team at Constellation Culinary Group created a menu that included multiple courses, each of them inspired by a specific piece from the exhibition. The title “Surface Pressure” alludes to Booker’s process of making — the literal force she exerts through the manipulation of raw materials including rubber, wood, steel, and paper. As diners dig into their plates, they’ll see these items illustrated through food. A hallmark of Booker’s artistic practice are her inventive sculptures composed of recycled tires, which was also a part of the meal’s impressive presentation.

The menu is now available for groups who book events at The Saratoga Art Museum during the period that Booker’s work is on exhibition. Courses include: 

• Yellowtail Crudo with Sea Beans, Squid Ink Aioli and Calabrian Chili 
• Black Garlic Caesar with Baby Vegetables
• Chicken al Mattone “Under a Brick” with potatoes and Italian Salsa Verde
• Salted Caramel Panna Cotta with smoked Maldon-toasted hazelnuts and dark chocolate
