Coastal Orthopedics Now Offering Intracept
June 24, 2022 – Bradenton
Coastal Orthopedics, a full-service provider of comprehensive orthopedic surgery, sports medicine, spine care, pain management and physical therapy services, recently announced it is now offering a new non-surgical procedure for patients called Intracept.
Intracept, a minimally invasive outpatient procedure, targets a nerve located in the bone of the spine. During the procedure, a specialized probe goes into the vertebrae and radiofrequency energy is used to disable the nerve, rendering it unable to transmit pain signals and helping to improve function and pain relief.
The entire procedure takes approximately 60 to 90 minutes and is ideal for patients that have been suffering from chronic low back pain that have failed conservative therapy.
Dr. Richard Bundschu, board-certified pain management physician at Coastal Orthopedics specializing in interventional treatments of the neck and spine, has already performed the new procedure a number of times at Coastal Orthopedics’ outpatient surgery center.
“As a pain management physician, I am always looking for new ways to improve the quality of life for our patients,” said Dr. Richard Bundschu. “This new procedure has almost immediate and lasting results for patients who have dealt with long-term pain and will help change many lives for the better.”
Intracept recently received widespread media attention after Today Show co-host Carson Daly shared his positive experience after undergoing the procedure.
Dr. Bundschu has a history of documented success with spinal injections, facet injections, radiofrequency vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty and implantable spinal cord stimulators, among other procedures. He is an internationally recognized leader in pain management techniques and trains other pain management physicians for the International Spinal Intervention Society.
Coastal Orthopedics has provided comprehensive orthopedics, sports medicine, physical therapy and pain management services to the residents of Manatee and Sarasota Counties since 1973. The healthcare provider recently celebrated its growth with the opening of two new facilities in West Bradenton and East Manatee, and continues to put an emphasis on providing patients with a comfortable setting using the latest technology.
