Howard Tevlowitz, CEO of The Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee for over 20 years, has announced plans to retire as of December 31, 2021. He has spent his entire career working in Jewish Federations in Long Beach, CA, Philadelphia, PA and Minneapolis, MN. Under his leadership, JFSM has evolved into a thriving 21st century organization.

His accomplishments include:
– The re-envisioning of the Federation’s 33-acre Larry & Mary Greenspon Family Campus for Jewish Life, for which an ongoing capital campaign so far has successfully raised $15.4M;
– Establishing a LIFE & LEGACY community-wide endowment campaign that has secured more than $20M in legacy gifts for 11 area Jewish institutions;
– Creating a security infrastructure to ensure the safety of the Jewish community, including the hiring of the organization’s first Community Security Director;
– Establishing relationships and deep-rooted partnerships with educational, faith-based and arts organizations throughout the community;
– Bringing financial stability to the Federation through engaging, strong financial leadership and establishing diversified revenue streams;

Randon Carvel, Board President said,  ”Howard’s dedication to our Jewish community for more than 20 years, his vision of what great things we can achieve for ourselves and future generations, has been inspiring for all of our community members and donors. Because of his leadership, we are in a position to truly begin the transformational changes that will serve our community for many years to come. We owe a debt of gratitude to this amazing man. Fortunately for us, although he will be retiring, we are glad to know he is staying here in Sarasota where he can continue to do good deeds.”

Howard Tevlowitz commented, “with the support of forward-thinking and creative volunteer leadership and an outstanding and dedicated professional team, we have worked together to grow the Federation in ways none of us could have ever imagined. It is not my intention to say good-bye; instead it is my firm and sincere belief that this year-long transition is necessary to take us to the next level.”

The Federation has initiated a national search, with a diversified group: Joel Morganroth MD, Chairman, Patti Wertheimer, Vice Chair, Veronica Brady, Randon Carvel, David Millstone, Mike Ritter, Wayne Ruben and Rabbi Jennifer Singer.
