Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast to Host Their “The Biggest Virtual Info Session”

By  |

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast is Hosting The Biggest Virtual Info Session across their 10-county footprint on July 7, 2020. The organization provides one-to-one mentoring relationships to children ages 6-21 years old throughout the Gulf Coast of Florida in Sarasota, Manatee, DeSoto, Highlands, Hardee, Charlotte, Lee, Hendry, Glades and Collier Counties.

Big Brother, Chris Smith, says he became a Big Brother because, “I wanted to make a positive impact on the youth in my community. In the process, I found a great workout buddy and an even better friend.”

Big Sister, Hannah Bagnall, says she became a Big Sister because, “When I was a little girl, I always wished I had a big sister who could walk beside me in life and be there to listen to me whenever I needed it. Now I can be that for another little girl.”

There are more than 200 children across the agency’s 10-county footprint who enrolled in the agency’s One to One Mentoring Program and are now just waiting to be matched with a mentor. The Biggest Virtual Info Session on July 7 will provide participants an opportunity to learn more about the organization and how to become a Big.

“The young people we serve are likely to bear the heaviest burdens of trauma and economic fallout from the Covid-19 pandemic. They face increased anxiety, stress, fear and worry, including a much greater exposure to adverse childhood experiences.  As the trauma to our most vulnerable will continue with profound effects, our work could not be more urgent and our mission more important than ever. Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast is actively supporting vital, life-changing mentoring relationships to engage in social, emotional, and educational support of our young people and families,” states Joy Mahler, President & CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast.
