Arts Advocates Announces 2021-2022 Board of Directors Officers

Arts Advocates is pleased to announce the 2021-2022 board of directors officers. On May 1, Jeannette Paladino takes over as president; Barbara Hyde, vice president; Barbara Fischer Long, recording secretary; Barbara Sander, corresponding secretary; and Carol Hartz, treasurer. 

Paladino moved to Sarasota in 2015, following an extensive career in marketing communications in New York City. She is an active volunteer with the Sarasota Cuban Ballet School. Hyde worked as communications director for the American Society for Microbiology before establishing her own consulting practice, Hyde Communications. She supports local ballet, theatre, opera and musical organizations. Long, during her professional career, was an advocate for children as a teacher, principal, supervisor of interns, and lecturer at various universities. Sander, elected corresponding secretary for a third year, holds degrees in psychology and social work. Upon her arrival in Sarasota in 2006, she joined Brandeis National Committee, eventually becoming their national president. Hartz holds a Ph.D. in business and has taught at Georgia State University, Eckerd College, and Oglethorpe University. 

Outgoing president Donna Maytham stated, “I am confident in this board’s abilities, and we’re all excited to see how they will continue to reshape the organization to further benefit the community, and local students and arts organizations.” 

The mission of Arts Advocates is to inspire creativity, advance education and connect the community to the arts. Since 1969, the organization has awarded over $1 million in scholarships to local students, and nearly $150,000 in grants to local arts organizations, schools, and children’s programs. All monies awarded are generated through Arts Advocates activities.
