April’s First Friday Block Party Celebrates the Arts

March 16, 2022 – Sarasota

After a roaring success at March’s “Neighbors & Newcomers” event, which saw over 3,000 guests party to a standout performance from former American Idol finalist Jonathan Cortez, Fresh Fridays event organizers return with a uniquely Sarasota event that positions the arts as an occasion for revelry.

Called ART ON THE BLOCK, the April 1st block party will take over the N. Lemon Avenue between Main St. and 1st, and celebrate one of the city’s most important legacies. Featuring showcases from various arts organizations in a broad assortment of mediums, ART ON THE BLOCK offers area residents an opportunity to engage with the creative talent that helps make Sarasota a destination for art and culture afficionados. “Going all the way back to the Ringlings, we have such a rich legacy of supporting visual artists and performers that it was only natural to make it a theme for the Fresh Fridays series,” says Joseph Grano of event partner, Next-Mark.

For event co-sponsor, Arts and Cultural Alliance of Sarasota County, the event promises to help fulfill their mission of highlighting and supporting the region’s arts. “Our number one mission is to raise the profile of arts in Sarasota,” says Alliance executive director Jim Shirley, “and direct community engagement in an event like this is such a powerful tool to accomplish that with.”

The event will still feature the same festive foundation of offerings, including free signature party favors, free polaroid portraits, libations al fresco and giveaways from 7-10 p.m. Located on Lemon Avenue between Main and First Street, ART ON THE BLOCK will implement a street closure starting at 3:30. Convenient parking is available at the State Street Parking garage, or on-street on Main Street, First Street, Second Street, Palm Avenue, and Orange Avenue.
