August 18, 2021 – Venice

Gulf Coast Community Foundation is now accepting applications for the Fall 2021 Gulf Coast Board Institute. Like the last session of this highly popular governance training series for nonprofit board members, the Board Institute will again be offered in a fully virtual format. The deadline to apply for the fall class is August 27, and the online application is available at GulfCoastCF.org. Board members who are selected for the class will participate in half-day training experiences on four consecutive Tuesdays from October 5 to 26 through the Zoom virtual platform. Topics covered will include fundamentals of nonprofit board governance, financial and legal oversight responsibilities, and how to create a highly functioning and engaged board. The training is led by BoardSource-certified consultants who are part of Gulf Coast Community Foundation’s Invest in Incredible nonprofit capacity-building initiative. Participants will be selected through a competitive process with the intent of creating a group of individuals with a variety of experiences. Gulf Coast will provide all training and resources at no cost in exchange for their commitment to advocate for good board governance in current and future nonprofit board roles. Applicants must be currently active board members at a nonprofit in the region to be considered. Because of high demand for the Board Institute, applicants also must sign a commitment that they will attend all four days of training if selected.

“As nonprofit organizations continue to deal with the many challenges of the pandemic, the role of their board members is as critical as ever,” said Veronica Thames, Chief Operating Officer at Gulf Coast Community Foundation. “By providing these volunteers with the support and resources they need to understand and practice good governance, Gulf Coast is making a direct investment in our region’s nonprofit community.”
