AdFed Suncoast joined the Sugar Volunteers on Saturday morning at South Lido Park for the Plastic Brigade, a statewide effort organized by the American Advertising Federation Fourth District. UF/IFAS Sea Grant Agent, Armando Ubeda, kicked off the cleanup with an educational marine debris presentation.
AdFed Suncoast president Shane Hughes, creative director at Michael Saunders and Company said, “Everybody should participate in helping keep our beautiful beaches clean and safe for sea life. We are proud to be a part of a statewide cleanup and know that we are making a difference.”
After just two hours of searching and collecting, 130 lbs. of debris was collected from the park. Plastic has been found in 62% of all seabirds and in 100% of sea turtle species. The cleanup effort was a collaboration between the American Advertising Federation, Sarasota Parks & Recreation, and Sugar Volunteers — a family-based goodwill organization.
Every year, AdFed Suncoast, a local nonprofit trade organization, hosts the American Advertising Awards, also known as the ADDYs. It is said that if you’re in business, you’re in advertising.
