Principal / Owner of Staebler Appraisal and Consulting

If you’ve ever driven through Downtown Sarasota and gawked at the remarkable high-rises, there’s a good chance Patricia Staebler’s firm Staebler Appraisal and Consulting is a consultant for these buildings.

Born in Germany, Patricia grew up in a German military family surrounded by American people and culture. Her father was a German American liaison officer in a small German town where a good percentage of residents were Americans.

“I grew up American. I had German parents. I went to German schools. But the rest of my life was American because my dad opened the doors for me to experience the American lifestyle. I always wanted to move to the States,” said Patricia.

Beginning her career at her family’s engineering firm in Germany, Patricia oversaw cost estimation, construction budgets, and site supervision. In addition to managing the 15-person engineering office, she handled property management for over 60 commercial and residential rental units.

She first began her journey of moving to the States in 1997, and after a few years of going through the process, she moved to Southwest Florida permanently in 2000. The goal was always to become an American citizen, which led to a rocky and long path to the Green Card and subsequent Citizenship.

“When I first got here, nobody cared that I spoke four languages,” said Patricia. “Nobody cared that I specialized in cost estimation and engineering. It was worth nothing. I had to start from scratch and get an American education.”

After going through the process to become a certified commercial appraiser, her career took off. In 2005, she worked temporarily for a Claims Adjusting Company due to her experience in construction, where she learned condominium insurance law. In 2006, she earned her certification as a State-Certified General Appraiser.

Shortly after these achievements, she opened her own firm, Staebler Appraisal and Consulting. Her firm concentrates on several valuation disciplines, including insurance appraisals, reserve studies, FEMA appraisals, and general consulting. She is also a sought-after expert witness in her field.

Her business continues to expand and increase in volume every day. The firm’s market area currently spans from Naples to North Tampa.

When she is not busy operating her company, she spends her free time pursuing her passion: extreme long-range shooting, also known as sniping, or ELR.

Growing up in a military family, Patricia had always been interested in learning sharpshooting as a sport. Today, she is quite renowned in this hobby, recently completing a two-mile shot in Texas this year, comparable to the world’s longest record sniper shot by Canadian Special Forces Sniper Dallas Alexander in 2017.

She frequents RangeWerx, a private shooting range located in Ft. Meade, just about an hour from Tampa. There she trains with some of the best shooters around, practicing tactical work consisting of carbine and pistol shooting.

Her long-term goal is to eventually become a certified instructor for pistols to elevate her ability to educate novice shooters, specifically women.

“Women approach me on a regular basis, as they want to learn how to responsibly own and operate a handgun. The reasons vary: self-protection, keeping up with a spouse in this field, or the need to feel empowered. My approach is first safety, proper handling of a weapon, de-escalation techniques, and situational awareness.”

“I also want to eliminate the bad reputation of sharpshooting, because most people forget it is a sport. We shoot steel and paper only, there is no harm. It’s a meditative experience when you are sniping these distances. You’re usually alone in vast nature with your thoughts, you completely detach and escape reality, like any other hobby.”
