The William G. and Marie Selby Foundation has awarded $499,424 in capital funds to support human service-focused nonprofit organizations impacted by Hurricane Milton.

Organizations received grants to help them quickly bounce back when damages to infrastructure halted or compromised services provided to vulnerable children, adults, and families. In some cases, buildings, fixtures, or equipment required replacement for optimal administration of essential programs. Grants supported needs when insurance and FEMA were either unavailable or presented barriers to quickly continue a high level of service.

“Throughout the year, the Selby Foundation’s capital grant program fortifies organizations and increases their ability to deliver on their missions in advance of challenges like devastating storms,” said Susie Bowie, President/CEO of the William G. and Marie Selby Foundation.

“After Hurricane Milton, organizations that people depend on for direct services and navigation immediately resumed their work, even with staff and supporters facing their own overwhelming situations. We are honored to help relieve the pressure of costly repairs and replacements nonprofits face as they adapt to increased needs after the storm.”

Organizations received grants from $1,650 to $50,000 and include: Academy at Glengary, All Faiths Food Bank, Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County, Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota and DeSoto County, Bring on the Ministry, Charlotte Community Foundation, Children First, Foundation for Dreams, Girls Inc., Harvest House, Solve Maternity Homes, Manatee Children’s Services, Rebuilding Together Tampa Bay, Resurrection House, Second Heart Homes, Step Up Suncoast, The Center of Anna Maria Island, The Glasser/Schoenbaum Human Services Center, and The Haven.

The Selby Foundation’s funds were often further enhanced with dollars from other local partners.

“Local community and private foundations have strong relationships. In a number of cases, our colleagues shared needs and teamed up to leverage grants together. This is representative of the ways our region and its partners come together,” said Bowie.
