Satchel’s Last Resort Raises More than $40,000
November 4, 2024 | Sarasota
A beloved annual tradition brought together community spirit and generosity, as Satchel’s Last Resort Animal Shelter/Sanctuary’s Pars 4 Paws Golf Tournament raised more than $40,000 to support dogs and cats in need. This year’s event, held at The Links at the Longboat Key Club on Saturday, November 2, saw impressive participation and donations, even with Hurricane Milton having passed through the region just three weeks before.
The hurricane posed significant challenges for the shelter and the local golf course, which had to clear debris and ensure safe playing conditions in the lead-up to the tournament. Pars 4 Paws was the very first event back at The Links on Longboat, which drew a soldout crowd for the tournament. Golfers were also joined by adoptable dogs and cats searching for their forever homes throughout the day.
“Our golf tournament is always a favorite event,” shares Jill Creevy, Board President of Satchel’s Last Resort. “We were unsure at first if the tournament could go on as planned following both Hurricanes Helene and Milton, but thanks to everyone’s efforts, we held a successful event raising more than $40,000. These funds will be instrumental in providing care and medical support to countless animals.”
Participants enjoyed a beautiful day of golf, special contests, and a post-tournament luncheon, where prizes were given for categories like closest to the pin, longest drive, and fastest to the hole. The event kicked off with a 50/50 helicopter ball drop competition, sponsored by Mid-Coast Roofing and SueLin Memorial Charity Fund. With 545 golf balls sold, the pot sat at $9,000. The winner, Lara S., would have received $4,500 as part of the 50/50, but she chose to donate her winnings back to Satchel’s Last Resort.
Several local businesses and organizations sponsored the tournament, including event sponsors David and Danielle Dashiell, Sarasota Veterinary Services, and Herald-Tribune Media Group, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to animal welfare in the community.
The funds raised will help Satchel’s Last Resort in its mission to rescue, rehab, and rehome dogs and cats with nowhere else to go. The organization encourages those interested in volunteering, adopting, or supporting their mission to reach out or visit www.satchelslastresort.org.
“This tournament is more than just a fundraiser – it’s a celebration of our community’s commitment to animals in need,” added Page Knoebel, Satchel’s Last Resort Founder. “We are grateful to the golfers who come out every year, our sponsors who make the event possible, the Longboat Key Club for hosting the event, and of course, our dedicated volunteers who make the event run smoothly. We look forward to continuing this tradition in years to come.
