Conservationist and Philanthropist, Elizabeth Moore, to Receive an Honorary Degree at RWU

Roger Williams University announces that this year’s commencement exercises will celebrate leaders across diverse fields, from education and women’s rights, law, and diplomacy to environmental science and social activism, as the university’s distinguished recipients of honorary degrees.

At the Commencement ceremony, RWU will present an honorary degree to Elizabeth Moore, a conservationist and philanthropist whose contributions have significantly advanced environmental conservation efforts and science education in New England and the Gulf Coast. Her work, from supporting basic research in soil, microbiology, climate science, land conservation, and reef restoration, unites science, the arts, and entrepreneurship, which makes connections and is a testament to her commitment to the Blue Economy.

Moore, from Manchester-by-the-Sea, Mass., and Sarasota, Fla., is a current board member at Roger Williams University and a past president of the TREE Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to tree research, exploration, and education. She is also a board member of the Mote Marine Aquarium and Research Lab, Conservation Foundation of the Gulf Coast, Gulf Shellfish Institute, Florida Wildlife Corridor, the New College Foundation Board, and Lemur Conservation Foundation. She is a founding member of Climate Adaptation Center.

COMMENCEMENT DATE: The university-wide Commencement celebration for undergraduate, graduate, and law students of the Class of 2024 is Friday, May 17. The university ceremony will take place on the main athletic field. The processional will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the ceremony will start at 9 a.m. Individual school ceremonies will follow throughout the day. RWU will proudly celebrate the diversity and achievements of 1,154 graduates in the Class of 2024. This diverse group includes 61 associate degree recipients, 806 bachelor’s degree recipients, 114 master’s degree recipients, 161 law degree recipients, and 13 certificate recipients, each of whom has contributed to the rich tapestry of our university community.
