Last week, the annual Florida Governor’s Conference on Tourism was hosted in Orlando by Visit Florida. Notably, during the Chairman’s Dinner of this event the recipients of the Flagler Awards were announced to all the attendees. These awards are presented to outstanding organizations and individuals to recognize innovation and resourcefulness in Florida tourism. As Visit Florida is the official tourism marketing corporation for the state, winning one of these awards is a high honor.
AWARD INFORMATION
The Flagler Awards of Visit Florida draw upon entries from tourism partners across the state of all sizes. These awards aid in the reminder to the world that Florida is one of the most sought-after travel destinations for good reason. First established in the year 2000, the awards intend to recognize tourism marketing in Florida and ultimately promote continued ingenuity. A panel of judges evaluate each award entry based on a variety of criteria including production quality, effectiveness, and creativity. The top three highest scoring entries in each category are bestowed based upon all judges’ cumulative scores.
Visit Sarasota County was honored this year to be recognized as a recipient of one of these prestigious awards. Receiving recognition for Direct Marketing by way of their direct mail “coaches card,” VSC earned a Bronze Flagler Award. Cutting edge direct marketing efforts of all types were entered into this category which encompassed anything that was direct to the consumer. The coaches card was direct mailed to engage a variety of coaches and get them interested in the sports facilities Sarasota has to offer. Mainly aimed at rowing, swimming and other water sport coaches, the mailer reached 3800 sports personnel and was widely praised for its creativity and unique design.
