The Sarasota Police Department, in partnership with the Deb Kabinoff Fund delivered 100 iPads to students in need at the North Orange Mobile Home Park in Sarasota. The iPads are intended to help parents and students combat learning loss that naturally occurs over the summer.
“These devices will support students on their learning journey to help remove barriers some youth in our community face in accessing essential educational tools outside of school,” said Chief Rex Troche. “This is an opportunity to help students work with technology to stay educated and engaged in the summer,” said Troche.
Studies show average student lose 17–34% of the prior year’s learning gains during summer break, with declines sharper for math and reading for lower income students. Deb Kabinoff is donating all the funds through the Sarasota Police Foundation needed to purchase 100 new iPads and keyboards for students to help create summer learning opportunities.
“I am excited to help these families maintain their educational efforts during the summer. Children who participate in enriching educational activities throughout the summer are less likely to experience learning loss,” said Deb Kabinoff.
