Fab Lab Doubles STEAM Camp Offerings
March 22, 2023 – Sarasota
In response to a waitlist as long as its enrolled list in summer 2022, the Suncoast Science Center/Faulhaber Fab Lab proudly announces it has nearly doubled its 2023 summer camp offerings. Camps at the Fab Lab connect students in grades 2-8 to experiential learning in science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) through immersive weeklong sessions in subject areas such as chemistry, coding, biology, space science, art & design and more. Campers build new skills through collaborative and engaging lessons and the use of makerspace machines, including 3D printers, laser cutters, vinyl cutters, and more.
- Themes for students entering second to third grade inspire young children to explore new interests through themes like Art & Design, Coding, Chemistry, Engineering, Florida’s Wildlife, Space Science and STEAM Camp.
- Rising fourth to fifth graders learn through fun, hands on challenges and takeaway projects in themed camps that include Art & Design, Chemistry, Coding, Engineering, Florida Flora & Fauna, History Mystery and Machine Madness.
- Sixth to eighth-grade students level up their experience with “Mastercamps,” which allows them to dig deeper or identify new interests. Themes include Advanced Engineering, Coding with Java, Coding with Python, Florida Biology, Forensic Investigation, Machine Madness, Rocketry, and Prop Design.
Weeklong sessions are $235 and run Monday through Friday from 8:30 am-12:30 pm or 1:30-5:30 pm, June 5-July 28. Registration fee includes all supplies and take-home projects. To register, view the full schedule of camps and learn more, visit https://suncoastscience.org/camps.
Fab Lab summer camps are developed and led by high school students in the organization’s educational leadership program, SPEC (Student Planning & Education Committee). By empowering teenagers to create unique and fun educational programs–with support from mentors and staff–interest and understanding of academic material are enhanced, and meaningful relationships between campers and instructors are formed.
