Temple Sinai hosts Artist-in-Residence Weekend March 24-26

Temple Sinai welcomes the community to an inspiring Artist-in-Residence weekend featuring Jacob “Spike” Kraus, March 24 -26, 2023. Jacob, known as “Spike” among the Jewish summer camp crowd, is a singer/songwriter, educator, and innovator, changing the way we think about Jewish music. He is one of the new generation of musicians bringing Jewish values and messages to all ages through his music and energy.

Jacob actively tours the country, and his music has been included in the cantorial curriculum of Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion. It has also been featured by Jewish Rock Radio and PJ Library. The son of a rabbi as well as the product of a Jewish day school and Jewish summer camp, Jacob brings more than musicality to his work. His intimate knowledge of the Hebrew language, Jewish texts, and culture add depth to his songs and authenticity to his role as a musical educator.

The weekend has something for everyone. Friday evening, March 24, 2023 begins with a welcome reception at 5:15 p.m. followed by a Erev Shabbat service, during which Jacob will enrich the service with his newest liturgical music. The Friday reception and service are free and open to the community. Saturday evening, March 25, 2023, starts at 6:00 p.m. with dinner from food trucks (not included in price), followed at 7:00 p.m. by a coffee house concert and Havdalah service. The cost for Saturday is $36 for adults, including beer, wine, other beverages, and desserts and $18 for teens. There is no charge for children under 12.

On Sunday, March 26, 2023, the program will be an enjoyable free concert for school-age children and families, featuring teen musicians, starting with a free pizza lunch at noon. Registration is requested.
