Dance Your Part: SCD’s Sunset Showdown

Sarasota Contemporary Dance (SCD) today announced its third annual fundraiser. SCD is treating its guests to an evening dance showdown overlooking the Sarasota Bay. This year, SCD’s fundraiser theme, Sunset Showdown, invites all to enjoy SCD’s version of “Dancing with the Stars” with Sarasota celebrities. The event will take place on March 4, 2023, at The Church of the Redeemer, 222 Palm Ave from 5:30 – 8:30 pm.

“This year’s fundraiser will be a showdown, Dancing with the Stars style that will feature local celebrities paired with SCD dancers in a winner-takes-all contest to see who will be SCD’s first-ever showdown winner,” said Leymis Bolaños Wilmott, SCD’s Artistic Director.

The event will be featuring Sarasota Mayor, Kyle Battie, and Commissioner, Erik Arroyo, along with two other male competitors, Alex Elshimy of Waterworks, and Vic Cipolla, the Sicilian with the BIG family. They are accompanied by the Sarasota Contemporary Dance company members, Juliana Cristina, Melissa Rummel, Monessa Salley, and Jessica Obiedzinski, choreographed by Artistic Director, Leymis Bolaños Wilmott.

“Sarasota is the small city with big arts,” said Jaime Still, SCD Board Vice President and primary fundraiser organizer. “SCD provides our community with incredible performances as well as inspired educational opportunities for dancers of all ages. This fundraiser helps support all of SCD’s programs and productions. Sarasota Contemporary Dance provides our community with beauty, love and inspiration in a time when we find aggravation and toxicity at every turn. SCD’s 17th season seeks to RECLAIM the stage, story, and spirit of the company in a performance season devoted to empowerment, collaboration, and forward motion.
