As the school year continues, All Faiths is grateful to the funders who are supporting its child hunger programs. Recent grants from foundations and a local church are being designated to the food bank’s BackPack and School Pantry programs.
At 69 schools and youth-serving organizations, students can receive “backpacks” filled with nutritious food to help them through the weekend or when school is on break. Additionally, there are pantries that provide fresh produce, meats and groceries at 13 area schools.
These programs and services would not be available without the considerable support of caring individuals, corporations, foundations, and religious organizations. Some notable recent contributors to the Food Bank’s work include: Bank of America Client Foundation, $40,000 for the BackPack program; Harold C. and Jacqueline F. Bladel Foundation, Inc., $10,000 for the BackPack program; Cook Family Foundation, $6,000 for the BackPack program; and Saint Boniface Episcopal Church, $5,000 for the School Pantry program.
“We know that food insecurity hinders the academic development of school-age children, with potentially lifelong impacts to their health and prospects for future financial stability,” said All Faiths Food Bank CEO Sandra Frank. “By providing healthy foods, we can help children to learn and thrive. We are so grateful to the funders who are partnering with us in the fight against child hunger.”
