All Faiths Food Bank, the only food bank and largest hunger relief organization in Sarasota and DeSoto counties, has recently been awarded a grant of $10,536 from the Shirley: Making A Difference Charitable Fund at Gulf Coast Community Foundation. These funds are being directed toward general operations and will be used to support the food bank’s efforts to end hunger in our community.
Some of the key programs provided by All Faiths Food Bank include: pediatric screenings – in partnership with healthcare providers and select partner organizations – to identify food insecurity at an early age; the Mobile Pantry program, through which All Faiths distributes fresh produce, meats and groceries; in-school pantries as well as mobile pantries hosted at area schools at times that are convenient for parents; the Backpack program, through which students can receive “backpacks” filled with nutritious food to help them through the weekend or when school is on break; the Campaign Against Summer Hunger, which provides food for students and siblings while school is out for the summer; nutrition education to help individuals and families learn how to shop for and prepare healthy, low-cost meals; benefits enrollment assistance; and much more.
