Manatee Chamber Announces 6th Annual Bartz Award Honoree

Manatee County businessman, attorney, and community leader Robert “Bob” Blalock will receive the 6th Annual Robert P. Bartz Award for Outstanding Leadership at the Manatee Chamber of Commerce’s 60th Annual Dinner on February 2, 2023 at the Bradenton Area Convention Center.

Created to recognize and inspire community leaders, the Bartz Award celebrates the legacy of the late Bob Bartz, who was president of the Manatee Chamber for almost 35 years until his passing in early 2017. He cared deeply about Manatee County’s economic health and worked diligently, using the Chamber programs and influence, to make a positive difference. His love for our community and the people who live and work here extended well beyond his work-related responsibilities. He was a selfless leader of the highest integrity and a tireless advocate.

Bob Blalock is described by colleagues as an icon in our community. His leadership on initiatives has resulted in catalytic efforts to enhance Manatee County’s economy and quality of life. Bob led the boards of directors for many major organizations in Manatee County including the Manatee Chamber, United Way, Manatee Community Foundation, Manatee County Bar Association, New College of Florida Foundation, John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, and others. He has been instrumental in local philanthropy, as well, including support for Take Stock in Children, ArtCenter Manatee, The Manatee Players, Florida West Coast Symphony, Just for Girls, and more. Many community leaders credit Bob for leading a coalition of community stakeholders to ensure that Bradenton’s now 50-plus year relationship with the Pittsburgh Pirates continued thanks to his ability to convene leaders during times when the Pirates were heavily courted by other communities.

Bob received many accolades and distinctions during his career as an attorney with the Blalock Walters law firm, including AV Preeminent™ Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell, The Best Lawyers in America© in the field of Trusts and Estates, listed among Florida Super Lawyers, and named a Legal Legend by Legal Aid of Manasota. He was named 2017 Manatee County Distinguished Citizen and was honored with the Lifetime Spirit Award: Manatee Community Foundation in 2012.

The Chamber’s 60th Annual Dinner program will also recognize outgoing Chairman of the Board Rick Bisio, The Educated Franchisee, and incoming Chairman Jeff Podobnik, Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball Club, as well as celebrate the Chamber’s mission and accomplishments.
