Bishop Parker Foundation Provides Instructional Support to SCF’s Nursing Center of Excellence
September 23 – Bradenton
State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota’s (SCF) Nursing Center of Excellence received a $300,000 grant from the Bishop Parker Foundation for instructional support in the Associate in Science Nursing (ASN) program. The funding enabled the recent expansion of the ASN program as the college seeks to meet the region’s growing demand for nurses. SCF continues to address the needs of a growing and aging population in Manatee and Sarasota counties through quality and exemplary nursing education thanks to the generous support from community partners.
“We count ourselves fortunate to continue receiving the generous support from the Bishop Parker trustees that have a long history of reinforcing SCF’s resources for training highly qualified nurses,” said Cassandra Holmes, executive director of the State College of Florida Foundation.
SCF’s Nursing Program was recently ranked among the best in the state, scoring in the top five of state colleges and universities in nursing examination first-time pass rate. The high success rate on the certification exam to become a registered nurse demonstrates the workforce focus that is one of the hallmarks of earning an ASN at SCF.
“Edward and Lillian Bishop, along with Mary Parker were strong advocates for supporting health related initiatives in Manatee County. Mary Parker was a nurse herself, and Lillian Bishop volunteered with Manatee Memorial Hospital under the supervision of Dr. William Sugg. We are pleased to continue their legacy with support for this critical community need,” stated Adell Erozer, Executive Director for the Bishop Parker Foundation.
Previous support from Bishop Parker trustees has allowed the development and maintenance of advanced educational facilities, including the only state-of-the-art Medical Technology & Simulation Center on Florida’s west coast. Their most recent support will permit SCF to hire additional nursing instructors who are outstanding in their field and hold advanced degrees in nursing.
The Bishop Parker Foundation’s mission is to strengthen the Manatee County Community by providing financial support to nonprofit organizations which are working to improve the lives of individuals and animals. The Foundation achieves this by prioritizing funding in health, human services, education, the arts, environment and animal welfare.
