Senior Friendship Centers recently received a major gift of $100,000 from the Doll-Loesel Foundation, giving a boost to the nonprofit’s unrestricted fund.
The gift will be used to support the areas of greatest need in the organization, which include addressing senior hunger, combatting isolation and loneliness, providing support and respite for caregivers, adult day services for older adults with minor cognitive impairment, economic assistance, services for the homebound, and more.
“We saw an opportunity to help Senior Friendship Centers rebuild and continue their great work,” a representative from The Doll-Loesel Foundation said. “With the demographic of our area and so much need, Senior Friendship Centers is a valuable community asset.”
Senior Friendship Centers’ mission is to promote health, dignity, and quality of life throughout the journey of aging. Since 1973 the organization has served more than 10,000 seniors per year in Sarasota, Charlotte, DeSoto and Lee Counties.
“Sometimes things come along at just the perfect time, and this was the case for this generous gift from the Doll-Loesel Foundation,” said Erin McLeod, president and CEO of Senior Friendship Centers. “The pandemic has created new challenges and funding needs for programs supporting older adults in our community. We have already seen the impact of this gift on the lives of seniors and we are extremely grateful.”
“We call it oiling the wheel,” said the Doll-Loesel Foundation. “We want to help organizations be better at what they do, and we hope that this gift will encourage others to support this important organization.”
