Safe Children Coalition to Accept Cryptocurrency Donations Starting on #CryptoGivingTuesday
November 17, 2021 – Sarasota
Safe Children Coalition, a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that serves Sarasota, Manatee and DeSoto counties, will accept charitable donations in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies throughout its end-of-year fundraising campaign, beginning with #CryptoGivingTuesday on November 30.
Since 2019, #CryptoGivingTuesday has fostered a culture of philanthropy among cryptocurrency users, a demographic that now exceeds 220 million worldwide. Similar to Giving Tuesday, which falls on the same day, #CryptoGivingTuesday helps organizations like Safe Children Coalition promote their causes to potential supporters; in this case, the donations come in cryptocurrency, rather than cash, credit card, or check.
Given the rise in value and popularity of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, child welfare organization Safe Children Coalition has chosen to diversify its revenue streams by accepting crypto donations for the first time in 2021.
Donations will support Safe Children Coalition programs and services such as adoption and foster care, youth prevention and diversion services, Adventure Club (after school care), HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters), Achievers (for middle and high school students), a Youth Shelter, Schoolhouse Link and more. The organization serves as a much-needed safety net for thousands of children and families throughout the community.
“Given the extraordinary level of need in the community, we felt it would be beneficial to open our revenue stream to any type of currency provided by those who wish to support our cause,” said Brena Slater, president & CEO of Safe Children Coalition. “The opportunity to participate in #CryptoGivingTuesday, thanks to the technological support of The Giving Block, offers us unique access to a new avenue for support, not only for Giving Tuesday, but year-round.”
Safe Children Coalition will be joined in #CryptoGivingTuesday fundraising efforts by its partner, The Giving Block, which provides technological solutions and support to charities that want to accept cryptocurrency donations. Supporters can donate crypto to Safe Children Coalition at sccfl.org/cryptocurrency.
All cryptocurrency donations made to Safe Children Coalition are non-refundable. Gifts will be used where they are needed most and cannot be designated to a specific program. The IRS classifies cryptocurrencies as property, so cryptocurrency donations to 501(c)3 charities receive the same tax treatment as stocks.
