September 8, 2021 – Sarasota

State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Winter 2019 Outstanding Graduate Ronny S. Fray Regato is one of eight recipients of the Google-Student Veterans of America (SVA) $10,000 scholarship. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Regato graduated from SCF with his associate in arts and went on to pursue a Bachelor of Science in computer science at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU). As part of Google’s commitment to military veterans and assisting those pursuing university degrees in computer science and related majors in the U.S., the organization partners with SVA to fund annual scholarships. Google SVA Scholars are also invited to attend the Google Scholars Retreat. “I am honored and humbled to have been named a recipient of the 2021 Google-SVA Scholarship,” said Regato. “I would like to thank Google and Student Veterans of America for making this scholarship possible. I would also like to thank SCF Veteran Services, especially advisor William Graydon, and the phenomenal professors I’ve had at SCF and FGCU.  In the Navy, Regato was a sonar technician in charge of a nine-person team deployed in Japan. His leadership experience and exposure to advanced technology inspired him to earn a STEM degree and to one day work in cybersecurity.
