Community Day School Holds ‘Beyond the Groundbreaking’ Celebration on New Campus

January 27, 2021 – Sarasota

Hershorin Schiff Community Day School recently hosted the “Beyond the Groundbreaking” celebration on the site of its new school campus in central Sarasota. It was a lovely event, with perfect weather and numerous supporters, school and community leaders in attendance.

Last year, Community Day School purchased property in preparation for a move for the 2021-2022 school year. The 8.8-acre campus in central Sarasota – at the site of the former Suncoast School for Innovative Studies/Temple Baptist Church – will enable Community Day to accommodate families on waitlists, achieve greater financial independence, and be convenient for families throughout Sarasota as well as Lakewood Ranch.

Despite the pandemic, Community Day has managed to secure significant support – through the multi-million-dollar “Owning Our Future” campaign – to purchase the property outright. Construction is well underway; during the “Beyond the Groundbreaking” event, Community Day celebrated its progress and offered effusive thanks to all who have provided leadership and support.

The program included: a welcome and brief explanation of the school’s educational philosophy and unique benefits for the community by head of school Dan Ceaser; a prayer by Colleen Blumenthal; campaign update and heartfelt words of thanks by the school’s board of trustees and “Owning Our Future” campaign co-chair Rachel Saltzberg; and a brief walk of the grounds with a construction update and “golden shovel” photo opportunity.

“My husband [“Owning Our Future” campaign co-chair Darren] and I believe that there’s nothing more important right now for the future of our children and our community than educating the next generation to look out for each other, grow up together, and fight hate together,” Saltzberg said to the assembled. “On behalf of our students, staff and board of trustees, thank you!”

The new facilities will be ready in time for the 2021-2022 school year.
