The Bradenton Kiwanis has awarded $27,745 to State College of Florida Foundation (SCFF) to support the highly ranked nursing program at SCF. The grant was used to purchase a pediatric medical simulator representing a 5-year-old patient for use in training scenarios. The simulator allows students to work with a realistic human patient simulation that mimics human anatomy and physiology.
Acquiring the simulator became a high priority due to COVID-19, which caused a reduction of clinical educational rotations in local pediatric units. The simulator ensures that SCF graduates informed, confident and competent nurses who are prepared to serve local medical practices and provide optimal health care services to the community.
“The opportunity to experience lifelike simulations has become increasingly important in the time of COVID-19 when students cannot participate in traditional clinical rotations. The simulator allows faculty to design and implement updated pediatric training scenarios as part of the SCF Nursing program curriculum. We are so very fortunate to have support from organizations like the Bradenton Kiwanis Foundation,” said Debra Allish, director of the Simulation Center at SCF.
