Sarasota Contemporary Dance Performs at the New Asolo Rep Terrace Stage
December 30, 2020 – Sarasota
Sarasota Contemporary Dance announced today that its January performance will be presented at the newly constructed Terrace Stage at Asolo Repertory Theater. Dance Makers, the third performance in Sarasota Contemporary Dance’s celebratory 15th season, will premiere on the Asolo Rep Terrace Stage January 21st – 24th, utilizing social distancing and CDC guidelines in accordance with Asolo Rep protocols. Sarasota Contemporary Dance will be the first community arts organization to be hosted on the new outdoor stage following Asolo Rep’s inaugural outdoor show this month. There will be four performances: Thursday, January 21st – Sunday, January 24th at 7:30 pm. In-person performance and virtual tickets can be purchased online at www.sarasotacontemporarydance.org or by calling 941.260.8485. Box office hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
The company had originally planned to present its 2021 in-person season performances in the Jane B. Cook Theater inside the FSU Center for the Performing Arts, beginning in January, but that venue is closed to the public at this time. Information about its April program will be announced at a later date.
“Providing a performance environment that is safe for both our patrons and performers is extremely important to me,” comments Artistic Director Leymis Bolaños Wilmott. “The Terrace Stage is an amazing opportunity to make live dance accessible for even more people in this crucial time, and I’m incredibly grateful.” She said that in moving to Asolo Rep’s new open-air performance space, “Sarasota Contemporary Dance is eager to continue welcoming— with arms outstretched, and six-feet away — our Sarasota community to the joys of live dance performance.”
Sarasota Contemporary Dance will continue to virtually broadcast its live performances for the foreseeable future, accommodating guests who prefer to watch performances online. The professional, multi-angle broadcasts of its performances adapt easily to the outdoor stage, capturing the essence of a live dance experience.
