November 18, 2020 – Sarasota

Habitat for Humanity Sarasota (Habitat Sarasota) served 14 families last fiscal year through their critical home repair and homeownership programs.

Habitat Sarasota’s list of accomplishments from fiscal year (July 1, 2019 – June 30, 2020) include:

• 14 families served through homeownership and critical home repair programs

• 179 zero percent interest free mortgages serviced. (10 families paid off their mortgages.)

• 705 volunteers contributed 13,000 hours toward the mission.

• We remitted almost $208,000 in property taxes to Sarasota County on behalf of our homeowners.

• Despite a 2-month closure due to COVID-19, our ReStore produced $1.5 million in revenue to support operating expenses.

• Habitat Sarasota continues to hold Guidestar’s highest level of recognition, a Platinum Seal of Transparency.

• Total revenue of just over $6.5 million dollars with $2.5 million dollars in charitable contributions.

We have evidence that our homeownership program benefits the families we serve. We recently surveyed nearly 180 families that currently have a mortgage with us. Since becoming a Habitat homeowner, 75% said they had greater job stability, 63% stated their financial stability had improved, and 62% said their children’s grades improved.

Habitat Sarasota continues to make an impact in the community while building strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter.

“Habitat Sarasota continues to be financially strong. We are a debt free organization. Every charitable gift we receive goes directly toward building homes, not toward overhead or administration costs.” says John Peshkin, Habitat Sarasota Board Chair and founder/principal at Vanguard Land, a private real estate investment group.

“Habitat Sarasota is blessed to have a toolbox that overflows with community support. Every resource is essential for us to quickly respond to homeowners’ needs and maintain a financially strong organization,” says Renee Snyder, President & CEO, Habitat Sarasota.
