The Board of Directors of Florida Winefest & Auction (aka Caring for Children Charities) is celebrating its 30 th Anniversary and awarded grants to 19 local disadvantaged children’s charities in June. Grants ranged from $500 to $25,500 and brings the total amount awarded to over $8.8 Million.
Our April 2020 events were postponed, but the Corona Virus did not deter us from continuing to support our charities as we have since 1991. In fact, it provided us with an opportunity to have an even more positive impact on our community. A most generous benefactor teamed up with us. Discovering the Virus was disrupting and affecting programs we fund, we purchased and distributed over 15,000 FFP2 surgical masks and 80 gallons of hand sanitizer to local charities and local assisted living facilities as a
safeguard against the Virus.
The benefactor’s funds also enabled us to provide over 1500 meals to local programs serving children and families whose resources have been affected by the Virus. The next step was to order materials so that respirator-style masks could be produced in Sarasota. These masks are also being distributed to local charities and assisted living facilities that are short on supplies and/or have the Virus in their facility. Instant Pots were ordered and are being distributed along with these masks as they can be sterilized in the “pots” and reused.
As a result of these unprecedented times and the need for social distancing, we are creating events for October/November that will meet these guidelines. Please visit our website for updates on our events – www.floridawinefest.org.
