To thank those on the front line for their hard work during the COVID-19 pandemic, Sarasota Yacht Club members are donating 50 dinners every week to Sarasota Memorial Hospital staff through the club’s philanthropic arm, SYC Cares. Dinner delivery started yesterday and will continue each Wednesday.
“This is our way of showing our gratitude to hospital CEO David Verinder and his committed staff who knowingly and courageously put themselves at risk to care for the people of our community,” said Sarasota Yacht Club Commodore Hugh McIlrevey.
SYC families have been involved in the donation, including youth members contributing hand-drawn thank you cards to insert with the meals.
SYC youth member Wyatt Wrigley, age 13, wrote in his thank you card, “We are all living in some hard times right now. For many it can be hard to cope, but because you are there for us, we know that we are all going to be okay. Thank you so much.” Wyatt’s 8-year-old brother Mitchell added, “I want you to know that you are special.” Their 11-year old brother Wesley concluded, “Thank you soooo much for sharing your time and dedication for the sake of another’s health and for keeping us safe through the tough times.”
“We are honored that we have this opportunity to say thank you to the true heroes,” said Karen Harmon, Sarasota Yacht Club’s GM/COO. “At this critical time, those working around the clock to keep us safe and healthy are genuinely inspiring.”
