Gulf Coast Community Foundation Cancels Better Together Luncheon

By  |

Gulf Coast Community Foundation announced  that it has canceled its Better Together luncheon, originally scheduled for Friday, March 13. The foundation will issue full refunds for prepaid reservations for the event, which was set to feature a talk by legendary ocean scientist Dr. Sylvia Earle.

The decision was made after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis held a press conference, at which he strongly recommended postponing large gatherings in the state to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

“Our priority is the health and safety of our guests and our community,” said Mark Pritchett, President | CEO of Gulf Coast Community Foundation. “We have been monitoring this situation by the minute, and with the Governor’s announcement today, we felt it was most prudent to cancel our event. While we are disappointed we cannot bring Dr. Earle and her message as we planned, we encourage everyone to learn more about the vital work of her nonprofit organization Mission Blue at Mission-Blue.org.”

The foundation said that guests who would like to donate their admission fee to support Gulf Coast Community Foundation’s Environment Initiative may do so by directly contacting the foundation. Otherwise, refunds for payments will be automatically processed.
