Sarasota Memorial Health Care System welcomed Stephen Kucera, MD, a specialist in digestive and gastrointestinal diseases, to the health system’s First Physicians Group (FPG) network.
A board-certified gastroenterologist, Dr. Kucera joined gastrointestinal oncology specialist Kenneth Meredith, MD, in FPG’s gastrointestinal specialty practice. Together, they provide comprehensive testing and treatment for patients with cancers of the liver, pancreas, bile duct or esophagus.
Prior to joining First Physicians Group, Dr. Kucera spent six years in private practice in Sarasota, caring for patients with some of the most challenging cancers of the gastrointestinal tract and helping SMH build its endoscopic oncology program. Using endoscopic ultrasound, Dr. Kucera fills a vital role in Sarasota Memorial’s Cancer Institute’s GI oncology team, providing important diagnostic and staging information used to map out and treat cancers that were previously untreatable because of the lack of specialists and technology in the Suncoast region. He works closely with other GI specialists, as well as medical and radiation oncologists in the community.
Dr. Kucera earned his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine on Dominica, West Indies. He went on to complete his internal medicine residency at Case Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio, and gastroenterology fellowship at the University of South Florida in Tampa. Dr. Kucera is also fellowship trained in interventional endoscopy and endoscopic oncology from Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa.
The FPG Gastrointestinal Oncology practice is located across the street from Sarasota Memorial Hospital in the Medical Arts building, 1950 Arlington Street, Suite 101. For information or appointments, call 941-262-0400.
