The Bishop Recognizes Supporters on National Philanthropy Day

By  |
On National Philanthropy Day, Nov. 12, the Bishop Museum of Science and Nature recognized two of The Bishop’s supporters who demonstrate an exceptional commitment to giving during a special luncheon hosted at Michael’s On East by the Southwest Florida Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Sarasota resident Sylvia Barber improves the quality of life in Manatee and Sarasota counties by supporting The Bishop and other area nonprofits. At The Bishop, her support helped ensure the success of the Connect Capital Campaign that made the Mosaic Backyard Universe possible and will also help the Museum continue to thrive in the future.

Local firm Willis Smith Construction proved that what’s good for business can be good for the community. They were a wonderful partner during planning and construction of the new North Education Center and Backyard Universe.

“Both Sylvia and Willis Smith have shown an exceptional commitment to The Bishop,” said CEO Brynne Anne Besio. “Not only has Sylvia has been a generous donor to our annual fund but she has also decided to leave a legacy gift. Her philanthropy helps to ensure that the Museum will be around for future generations.

“Willis Smith Construction has proven itself a wonderful partner as well throughout the entire planning and construction of our first major expansion in decades. We’re so pleased to have worked with them and thankful for their support to us as well.”
