USF Sarasota-Manatee Campus Board member Dr. Anila Jain ’81 has been named recipient of the 2019 University of South Florida Alumni Association Donald A. Gifford Service Award.
The longtime USF and USFSM supporter and Manatee County resident was recognized on Oct. 10 at the Alumni Awards Dinner at the USF Marshall Student Center Ballroom in Tampa.
“It’s always an honor to be recognized by my alma mater,” said Jain, who graduated from USF in 1981 with a biology degree.
The Donald A. Gifford Alumni Service Award honors USF graduates who have rendered distinguished service to USF and the community. The award has been presented annually since 1991 and was renamed the Donald A. Gifford Alumni Service Award in 2000 in honor of past USF Alumni Association and USF Foundation President Donald Gifford.
A physician renowned for her volunteerism, Jain has been a USF leader for decades, serving on the boards of the USF Foundation, USF Alumni Association (past chair), USF Bulls Club and USFSM Campus Board.
She was elected president of the National Alumni Association in 2003 and appointed to the USF Foundation Board of Trustees. In 1985, she received the USF Distinguished Alumni Award,and in 2001 she received the USF Sarasota-Manatee President’s Distinguished Alumni Award. She is a founding member of USF Women in Leadership and Philanthropy.
Her generous financial gifts include multiple legacy endowments and scholarships benefiting several areas within the USF System, including USFSM.
In addition, Jain is an American Medical Women’s Association National Service Award recipient, a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority and former national chair of the Kappa Delta Foundation.
Also recognized at the ceremony were Joanna Sigfred Fowler, PhD, (Distinguished Alumni Award); Gilbert King (Distinguished Alumni Award); Geraldine I. Twine (Distinguished Alumni Award) and Richard A. Beard III (Class of ’56 Award).
