SCF Announces Second Class of the President’s Leadership Academy

By  |

State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) has named five faculty and staff members to its second President’s Leadership Academy. Designed to groom emerging leaders at the College, the program will run from September 2019 through April 2020.

The members of this year’s Leadership Academy are:

Regenail Thomas, Employment/Equity, manager
Trevor Harvey, academic student success advisor
Suzanne Bechtol, Social and Behavioral Sciences, assistant professor and department chair
Robyn Bell, Music, associate professor and program director
Heather Shehorn, Academic Partnerships and Programs, program director
The model for the academy is based on competencies identified by the American Association of Community Colleges in its Emerging Leaders program. The participants will experience personal and professional growth by developing a better understanding of SCF, its relationship with Florida’s higher education systems and its community impact in Manatee and Sarasota counties.

“The Leadership Academy is an important initiative for the development of dynamic leaders to guide the direction of the College and boldly engage our stakeholders,” said Dr. Carol Probstfeld, SCF president.

Class members will take part in a series of leadership development sessions, College immersion activities and lunch-and-learn sessions. Reading assignments and a group project are also part of the curriculum. The class will take a three-day trip to Tallahassee to meet with members of the local legislative delegation and gain an understanding of how the state budget process impacts SCF.
