Forty Carrots Family Center has been awarded an $18,000 grant from the Allen Wirtz Nobbe and Jo Bowen Nobbe Fund at the Community Foundation of Sarasota County to expand its Partners in Play® (PIP) parenting education with weekly groups at Tuttle Elementary School.
The generous grant builds on Forty Carrots’ current partnership with Tuttle Elementary by offering parenting education in addition to mental health services to children and families. Designed to serve the needs of parents and children (ages 0 -5) together, PIP parenting education groups foster positive parent-child relationships that are a proven vital factor in mitigating the negative impact of stressors like poverty or homelessness on children’s mental health and subsequent school success.
“Forty Carrots’ strong collaborations with outreach partners such as Tuttle Elementary are essential to strengthening families and our community at large,” said Forty Carrots CEO Michelle Kapreilian. “The Community Foundation of Sarasota County knows that ensuring all families have the knowledge and support to raise their children in nurturing environments is necessary for healthy development and future student success.”
“There is much research to support the interaction between parents and their young children and its impact on brain development,” said Tuttle Elementary principal Dr. Patti Folino. “We are excited to partner with Forty Carrots to bring PIP to our school community, providing an accessible and effective opportunity to establish strong foundations for learning for our young students.”
