Attorney Michael L. Foreman is celebrating 50 years of service at Icard Merrill – only the second attorney in the firm’s history to reach that milestone. Foreman joined Icard Merrill in 1969 after graduating from the University of Florida College of Law. He is past president and managing partner of the firm and has been a pivotal part of the organization’s growth, spearheading many major initiatives. He coordinated the transition of the firm to computerization, negotiated the sale of the firm’s former office building and the lease of the current office, and assisted in systemizing office management.
For five decades, Foreman has focused his practice on estate and trust planning and administration, guardianships and real estate, with a particular emphasis on planning for incapacity, family wealth planning, fiduciary relationships, accountings, and healthcare advance directives. He is AV Preeminentâ Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell.
Foreman has been highly active with The Florida Bar and is past president of the Sarasota County Bar Association. He has been a part of the Executive Council of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section of the Florida Bar and received an award from the RPPTL Section for drafting Florida’s Durable Power of Attorney Statute. For the last several years, he has been working with the Section’s Guardianship Statutory Revision Committee. When completed, the statutory updates will totally revise Florida’s Guardianship Law.
In 2000, Foreman was involved in the formation of the Law Firm Alliance, a strategic alliance of more than 50 law firms around the globe. Icard Merrill continues to be a participating member of the Alliance.
A Sarasota native, Foreman has continually been involved with civic and nonprofit organizations in the region.
