Sarasota Surgeon Elected President of Florida Vascular Society
Deepak G. Nair MD MS FACS RVT has been elected as the 2019-2020 President of the Florida Vascular Society (FVS). As president, he will lead an organization that continues to influence change, both state-wide and nationally, in the care of patients with venous and arterial disease.
Dr. Nair is a significant contributor to the medical community on local, state and national levels. Locally, he serves as the Chief of Vascular Surgery, Chairman of the Vascular Quality Improvement Committee, and Chairman of Medical Education at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. He is also the immediate Past President of the Sarasota County Medical Society, and now serves on their Board of Directors.
On a state level, he is a Board Member of the Florida Chapter, American College of Surgeons, and serves as Secretary on their Executive Committee. Dr. Nair is also a Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at Florida State University School of Medicine.
Nationally, he serves as Chair of the Section on Outpatient and Office Vascular Care in the Society for Vascular Surgery, where he champions patient care in the outpatient environment. Additionally, he is on the Executive Committee of the Intersocietal Accreditation Association’s Vein Center Board of Directors, where he addresses quality and safety in the management of vein disease. Nair is also a Governor to the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Nair graduated from the Bronx High School of Science in New York City. His undergraduate degree is from The City College of New York, and he received his medical education at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. He trained in general surgery at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center in New York City, and then in vascular surgery at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Nair is Board Certified in General Surgery and Vascular Surgery. His clinical expertise includes all aspects of arterial and venous disease, with a specialty in endovascular minimally invasive treatment of aneurysms.
Dr. Nair is married to Dr. Alka Nair (Internal Medicine). They have three children, all of whom were born in Sarasota.
